Styling and Theming

Create consistent, professional diagrams with custom colours and project-wide themes. Learn how to style individual elements and apply themes across your workspace.

Consistent styling makes diagrams easier to read and gives them a professional appearance. The editor offers element-level styling and project-wide theming to help you create cohesive diagrams.

Project Themes for Diagrams

For consistent styling across all diagrams in a workspace, configure default colours in the project settings.

Setting Up Project Defaults

What You Can Theme

The Diagram Theme tab supports default colours for:

Process Shapes
Rectangles, diamonds, circles, terminators, and other process flow shapes.
Container Shapes
Grouping containers in various shapes (rectangle, circle, pill, diamond, hexagon, and more).
Swimlanes
Vertical and horizontal swimlane colours.
ERD Tables
Table headers, rows, and key indicators.

Graph Diagram Colours

Graph diagrams use a different approach to theming. Instead of project-wide defaults, you style nodes directly:

Light and Dark Mode

NeoArc supports both light and dark colour schemes. When creating diagrams:

Test Both Modes
Test your diagrams in both modes to verify readability.
Avoid Mode-Specific Colours
Avoid colours that only work in one mode.
Sufficient Contrast
Use sufficient contrast for readability.
